Wallcoverings

When a room catches fire, intense heat builds up around the walls and ceilings. If the wall coverings are flammable, they can catch fire and allow the flames to propagate along the walls.

Dartex's MelaphosFR wall coverings can slow down or halt the spread of flame.

For best results, the products should be applied to bare plasterboard, but where this is not possible or desirable, MelaphosFR wallcoverings can slow the spread of flame even when applied over painted walls.

So to improve the fire performance of your living rooms, meeting rooms or escape routes, choose a decorative MelaphosFR wallcovering.

Dartex's MelaphosFR wall coverings are available in a range of colours and can be supplied with a plain or embossed surface.

Products are available for self-pasting or supplied with a fire-retardant adhesive coating.

In a fire the wall coverings protect in several key ways:

  • Flame retardant gasses are released to slow the fire

  • Non-flammable gasses are released to dilute the flames

  • Heat is absorbed to cool the fire

  • A heavy char is developed to prevent the spread of flames

  • Heat is reflected away from the walls

Compare the fire behavior of a painted wall, and a painted wall protected by a MelaphosFR Wallcovering in the video below.

Below is a video showing indicative testing to BS476 part 7, carried out first on a calcium silicate board and then on a painted board.

Note: The fire testing shown was conducted in non-controlled conditions. Images and videos are provided for information only. Suitability for use in a given application should be confirmed by conducting the required testing, in an approved facility.
