Textile Finishing
Dartex's MelaphosFR solutions for textile finishing are available for a range of fabrics including both man-made and natural fibres.
Using water-based polyurethane as a binder, the products incorporate a range of halogen-free flame retardants to protect a fabric.
In a fire the coatings protect the fabrics in several key ways:
-
Flame retardant gasses are released to slow the fire
-
Non-flammable gasses are released to dilute the flames
-
Heat is absorbed to cool the fire
-
A stable char is developed to protect lower layers from the fire and burning debris
-
The coating immobilises the fabric, reducing shrink-back from the flame
Mixed fibre upholstery fabrics, back-coated with MelaphosFR solution, mounted over domestic grade foam and expsosed to a small flame.
