Summer 2018

As you will be aware, Trelleborg Group through its business area Trelleborg Engineered Coated Fabrics, acquired Dartex Coatings Ltd and Dartex Coatings Inc. on 1 February 2018. You may have noticed a few small changes so far, such as our modified bank details and new factory signs. We’re also working on transitioning our IT systems, so our email addresses will be changing in the coming months but we’ll notify you of any updates when they happen.

Aside from that, it is business as usual as Dartex continues to set the standard for technical textiles in the healthcare sector. Come and see for yourself – we are always pleased to arrange facility tours so you can see first-hand how our Dartex fabrics are manufactured.
In other news, we have a number of new starters at the UK and US sites; we’re keeping you informed about how we use your data; and we take a 10 minute ‘T-break’ with one of the team.
Until the next edition….

David Ripley

Managing Director

Did You Know...? It’s all about the Base

While the focus is often on the top of the mattress, remember that the base has an important part to play in the functionality of your complete bed system. Points to consider for your latest development:
  • Pooling – traditional PVC mattress bases stop moisture from escaping. This means it gathers and ‘pools’ at the bottom, causing damage
  • Breathability – Moisture vapour transfer is important
  • Durability – A strong fabric is required to withstand potential damage from manual handling
Talk to our technical team: We can advise you on the best option for your mattress system.

Two Minute T-break - Meet the Team
This edition, we meet Ilias Alexandrakis,
Development Project Manager

What is your role at Trelleborg?
I am a Development Project Manager, working in the Technical Team in Nottingham in collaboration with our customers to transform ideas for healthcare textiles into real products for use around the world.

What does this involve?
We have to be at the forefront of understanding the advances in chemical, medical and textile developments, so we can engineer textiles that meet the end user needs and enhance the functionality of the medical device they are designed for.

An important aspect of my role is to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the project, whether that’s the customer we are collaborating with to create the product or internally with the production team to set up product trials and testing.

What do you like the most about your job?
I really enjoy the process of developing an innovative new product, and then seeing it come to market. A project I really enjoyed working on involved encapsulated printed graphics under the polyurethane coating of the textile. This was a challenging project as it was the first time this process had been successfully undertaken for mattress covers in the healthcare industry. This experience gave me a good grounding in how printed textiles are produced, and it’s an area I’ve continued to work in.

Tell us something exciting that you have recently worked on?
We are constantly working on the ‘Next Big Thing’ and always have non-disclosure agreements with our customers, so sorry, no spoilers…! But I can say that following customer demand, I am working on expanding our range of printing capabilities, which will allow us to provide a seamless in-house service

If you could do any other job, what would you do?
I enjoy exercising, which has helped me physically and mentally too. I have enjoyed learning about the importance of general fitness, and I feel a sense of achievement when I hit my exercise targets so I would happily consider a career as a coach/ personal trainer as this would enable me to help others achieve similar goals.
